Ini adalah merupakan karya buku paling penting dari Sir George Ripley, seorang bangsawan Inggris yang terkenal dan juga berpengaruh dan dianggap sebagai seorang Alkemis Inggris abad ke-15. Kehidupan Ripley sama misteriusnya dengan warisannya yang berupa tulisan alkemi yang mistis serta ilustrasi yang terdapat didalamnya, namun ia diduga belajar di Roma dan menjadi agen kepausan dan mempunyai hubungan dengan The Knight of St John dari Yerusalem yang lebih dikenal sebagai Knight Hospitaller.
Selanjutnya Ripley kembali ke Inggris dimana ia menghasilkan sebagian besar karya-karyanya terutama dibidang alkemi. Sangat menarik untuk dicatat bahwa Paus pada tahun 1317 telah membuat larangan study dan penerbitan teks alkemi dan khususnya melarang para biarawan untuk mengajar subjek ini, tapi 100 tahun berselang Ripley yang merupakan kesayangan dari Paus Innosensius VIII telah mengabdikan hidupnya untuk mengejar ilmu ini.
Ripley Scroll banyak ditafsirkan secara berbeda oleh banyak orang namun tetap saja menjadi misteri. Kebanyakan para ahli mempercayai bahwa scroll tersebut berisi "Resep" untuk keabadian. Namun ada yang percaya bahwa para peneliti tersebut telah melewatkan beberapa bukti penting.
